At Shorncliffe we have fostered and grown many, strong community partnerships. These partnerships have led to an extensive excursion and incursion program. Excursions and incursions link closely to curriculum requirements in English, Science, HASS, Japanese and Health and Physical Education.
We offer our students a diverse range of excursions/incursions including sailing through the Qld Cruising Yacht Club, debating classes with Debating QLD, dance with Creative Dance Industries and caring for the environment with Brisbane City Council, Nudgee Beach Environmental Centre and Eco Marines. Other partnerships include the Museum of Brisbane, local authors and the Goombuckar Indigenous Bus.
School camps are held for varying durations in a range of settings from years 4 – 6, including a Canberra Tour offered every second year to Year 5 and 6 students.
We invite experts to our classrooms, including parents as experts. We value the expertise within our community and seek to bring this wealth of knowledge into our curriculum.
Reading Friends is a Shorncliffe State School community engagement project, which started in 2019. Parents, friends and families volunteer time each week to read with students from Prep to Year 6. Reading Friends provides an important role in our students reading development as they increase students reading mileage and build confidence. Volunteers are recruited at the beginning of each school year but can sign up at any time once an induction is completed. Please note that volunteers other than parents must hold a valid Blue Card.
Parents and family are welcome and encouraged to assist with excursions, incursions and classroom daily activities.
