At Shorncliffe, the Enrichment and Inclusion program works to support students with a range of additional needs. This includes students who require learning support to meet year level learning requirements as well as those with verified disabilities, specified learning difficulties/disorders, social/emotional needs, behavioural needs, learning extension and English as an additional language. The goal of the program is to work to meet Shorncliffe's mission of "a year's worth of growth for a year's worth of learning for every student".

Shorncliffe State School works on a Tiers of Support model – that is, the higher the student's needs, the higher level of support is provided. This can range from Tier 1, where students are supported in the classroom through differentiation, up to Tier 3 where they are provided with intensive intervention from the Diverse Learning team. The level of support provided is decided by assessing evidence gathered through classroom participation, reports/assessments and in consultation with the classroom teacher, Enrichment and Inclusion team and leadership team.

The Enrichment and Inclusion program is supported by the following staff:

  • Enrichment and Inclusion Teacher/s
  • Enrichment and Inclusion Teacher Aide/s
  • Guidance Officer
  • Speech Language Pathologist
  • Advisory Visiting Teachers (AVT)
  • Therapists for students with verified disabilities.

Referral to each of the staff is decided at a Enrichment and Inclusion meeting based on evidence of learning and progress.

All students who are supported by the Enrichment and Inclusion team will have a Personalised Learning Record. This will outline goals, strategies, and the support the student will be provided. This plan is revisited and reviewed regularly and discussed with parents at parent teacher interviews. This is to ensure a clear, collaborative, and transparent approach to a student's progress.
