Students need to be provided with genuine opportunities to demonstrate deep learning competencies and they need to be able to shift from surface to deep as needed in the learning process (Hattie, 2016).
At Shorncliffe State School we engage with the Deep Learning Framework as it provides real world and relevant learning experiences that are meaningful to our student's future. Deep Learning develops the skills of the six global competencies so our students are able to respond to the unpredictable and challenging world they live in.
Deep Learning is authentic learning that sticks. Through a student-centered, equitable pedagogical approach, Deep Learning amplifies engagement, encouraging students to unleash their limitless potential by crossing academic and social boundaries. Deep Learning taps into student curiosity and invites all students to flourish in their learning through a reimagined inquiry approach. At Shorncliffe State School, we utilise a common language, engage in powerful conversations and seek community engagement, so that our students
become active, global-citizens who make deeper connections and meaning of their world.

Global competencies at the centre of learning provides clarity about what it means to be a deep learner. Deep learning is defined as the process of acquiring these six global competencies. At Shorncliffe we have aligned the 6Cs to the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities which are explicitly taught to our students through our Deep Learning Units.
